Shady Grove Campgrounds

Open from April 8, 2009 to November 8, 2009, the well-shaded woods of Shady Grove Campgrounds—located on scenic Lake Lanier—offer 110 spacious hillside camping sites with electric and water hookups. Fees range from: 30 amp electric site with water - $24, Tent camping site with no hookups - $16, Group camping (south) - $ 130, Group camping (north) - $150, and a visitor fee - $2.

Recreational activities at Shady Grove Campgrounds feature a swimming beach, boat ramp, and courtesy dock, giving campers access to Lake Lanier’s 38,000 acres of natural resources for sightseeing, picnicking, fishing, boating, and water sports. Shady Grove’s peaceful setting on a peninsula of Lake Lanier—away from city sights and noises—adds to the charm of this ideal camping location. Lake Lanier—which lies in the foothills of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains—is enjoyed by over 7.5 million people a year as a great travel destination noted for its scenic shores and a wide variety of recreational activities which are featured along the lake’s 690 miles of shoreline and over 100 small islands.

Facilities include a dump station ($15), laundry facilities, restrooms, and hot showers, in addition to group campsites, picnic shelters, tent camping areas, and a playground.

Location: Just 45 minutes from Atlanta, Shady Grove Campground is one of several campgrounds in the north Georgia city of Cumming, which is the county seat of Forsyth County.

Park gates are locked from 10:30 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.

Nearby conveniences: there are gas and propane outlets, public marinas, convenience stores, restaurants, and retail shopping areas within 5 miles from the camp. Also located near Cumming is the historical Poole’s Mill Covered Bridge, built in 1906, which spans Settendown Creek.

Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance with full payment made in person at the campground. Accepted forms of payment are cash, check, credit card, or money order. Campsite occupancy is limited to a maximum of eight people and three vehicles. And due to limited parking, only one camper trailer or motor home is allowed per site.

Check in time is 8:30 a.m.
Checkout time is 3:00 p.m.

Directions: take 400 North to exit 17, turn right on Hwy. 306, turn right on Hwy. 369, turn right on Shady Grove Rd., turn left on Shadburn Ferry Rd., which ends at the campground.
